School principal arrested after girl students complain of sexual abuse

KALABURAGI: Nagshetty Kulkarni, the principal of Morarji Desai Residential School at Hallikhed in Humanabad taluk, Bidar district, was arrested and sent to judicial custody on Friday over complaints of sexual harassment by a section of girl students at the institution.Kulkarni has been booked under the Pocso Act. The principal was found guilty in a report submitted to Govindreddy, the deputy commissioner (DC), by a committee formed by the district administration.On Tuesday, a section of the girl students at the school filed a written complaint with the district officer for backward classes against their principal, alleging sexual harassment.Following the complaint, the district administration formed a five-member committee comprising women officers who visited the school and conducted an inquiry. In its report to the DC, the committee held the principal guilty. Based on the report, the district social welfare officer filed a complaint against Kulkarni at Chitaguppa police station and a case was registered under the PocsoAct.
